Samuel Boyle, Jr. was the fourth head college football coach for the Virginia Military Institute Keydets located in Lexington, Virginia and he held that position for two seasons, from 1898 until 1899. His career coaching record at VMI was 5 wins, 2 losses, and 0 ties. As of completion of the 2008 season, this ranks him 22nd at VMI in total wins and fifth at VMI in winning percentage.[1]

The second season was only one game, a 39–0 victory over Washington & Lee.[2]
